THE HISTORY OF VEGETARIANISM

 

A collection of some 1000 books and pamphlets on vegetarian diet, including cookery books, philosophical and ethical works, and medical tracts, published between 1548 and 1969. Includes the earliest printed editions of Porphyry, Italian and English editions of Cocchi, examples of the writings of Shelley and Shaw, Cornaro, Thomas Tryon, George Cheyne, Gregoire Berthelet, Patrick Delany, Joseph Ritson, John Newton, William Lambe, John Sinclair, Wm Alcott, Sylvester Graham, Thomas Low Nichols, et al., as well as runs of early health reform periodicals, vegetarian society pamphlets, and popular literature.

Following is a short-title list. A full bibliographical catalogue, with collations and notes, is in preparation and will be available for $50.
